11 OCT 2005 First steps towards a EU blacklist of unsafe airlines [to table of contents]
In a vote the transport committee in the European Parliament approved the report by Christine de Veyrac MEP (EPP-ED, France) by 43 votes for, one against and one abstention, thereby clearing the way for a speedy adoption of a draft regulation to establish an EU black list of unsafe airlines. All carriers on the list will be banned from flying in the EU airspace, allowing the same level of safety for all flights departing or landing in the EU. The European Commission should now compile the list on the basis of common inspection criteria. (Euractiv, EU)

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has come out against an EU proposal for a centralised blacklist of unsafe airlines. It does not see the need for a centralised system. But the Department of Transport said it supports the proposed blacklist, on the basis that it would help ensure the safety of Irish passengers across the EU. (Irish Indepenedent)

17 OCT 2005 ILS frequency temporarily jammed at Tokyo-Haneda [to table of contents]
Problems with the reception of ILS signals at Tokyo-Haneda caused the closure of runway 16R/34L for three hours and the delay of fifty flights. It appeared that a US Navy fleet returning to the Yokosuka naval base in the area was using the same frequency. (NHK)

27 OCT 2005 FAA raises safety rating for Argentina [to table of contents]
The U.S. FAA announced it is raising Argentina`s safety rating to Category 1 following a reassessment of that country`s civil aviation authority.
